Rag Quilt
Student will learn to make a simple patchwork rag quilt using a Layer Cake (10" squares). Student will have option to leave the outer edges ragged or can add a border and binding (on their own).
Sample quilt is approx 50" x 70", but student can make any size desired. The blocks and borders can be made from cotton or flannel. There are no rules.
Fabric requirements for sample with borders and binding:
Layer Cake for blocks
1.25 yds for optional border
5/8 yd for optional binding
2.5 yds Flannel for inner layer (blocks only)
Additional 1.25 yds Flannel for inner layer of border (if using a border)
2.5 yds Backing for blocks
1.25 yds backing for border backing (if using a border)
Other supplies:
50 wt 100% cotton thread for piecing
Sewing Machine with walking foot
Disappearing marking pen/pencil
Rag Snips
Precutting Instructions (for sample):
Cut Flannel into 10" squares (35 total)
Cut Backing into 10" squares (35 total)
Save border fabric/flannel/backing for later.
